Kernel Craze was born out of a love for great snacks and a passion for bringing people together. Our founder, Stephen Valkenhaus, grew up in Henderson, NC, during a time when the community was full of fun and exciting activities for kids—parks, Nazkarts, Adventure Island, and The Skateeum. But over the years, many of these beloved places have faded away, leaving fewer options for families to enjoy quality time together.
At the same time, the rising cost of living has made it harder than ever to find affordable, high-quality treats. Recognizing these needs, Stephen and his family—longtime connoisseurs of gourmet popcorn—decided to create something special. In 2024, Kernel Craze was born.
Popcorn has a way of bringing joy to any occasion—whether it’s game night, movie night, or just a Tuesday afternoon. Our mission is to provide a delicious, wholesome snack that the whole family can enjoy while also creating a welcoming space for the Henderson community. That’s why we’re committed to partnering with local schools, businesses, and organizations to support fundraisers, events, and community initiatives.
